The necessary reading
Privacy & Terms
Last updated: 29 July 2026
Every app makes you scroll through one of these. We've tried to keep ours short, in plain words, and only mildly painful. Grab a cup of tea.
Privacy Policy
This explains what information Cookbuddy collects, why, and what we do (and don't do) with it. If a section bores you, that's a good sign — boring is what you want from a privacy policy.
What we collect
- Account details — your name, username, email, and password (stored encrypted; we can't read it, and we'd rather not anyway).
- Content you create — recipes, photos, messages, comments, and live streams you choose to share.
- Usage basics — which lives you join, who you follow, and general app activity, so the app can actually work.
- Payment info — handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. We just get a quiet nod that it went through.
How we use it
- To run the core things: your feed, live cook-alongs, messages, and follows.
- To keep the community safe and to act on reports.
- To send you the emails you asked for (verification, password resets, and the occasional "your favourite chef is live"). You can turn the optional ones off.
What we don't do
Your choices & rights
- See it — you can view and edit your profile and content any time.
- Delete it — you can delete individual recipes, or your whole account, from Settings. When you delete your account, your personal data goes with it. No 14-step exit interview.
- Control it — notification and privacy toggles live in Settings.
Cookies
We use the minimum needed to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. The edible kind is, sadly, out of scope.
Children
Cookbuddy is for people aged 17 and over. If you're younger than that, please put the knife down and come back when you're older. We don't knowingly collect data from children.
Security
We use industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest, and we keep access tight. No system is perfectly unbreakable, but we treat your information the way we'd treat our own — carefully, and without leaving it on the counter.
Terms of Service
By using Cookbuddy, you agree to these terms. They're the house rules that keep the kitchen pleasant for everyone.
Eligibility & your account
You must be at least 17 to use Cookbuddy. Keep your login details to yourself, and let us know if someone else gets into your account. You're responsible for what happens under it.
Community rules
Cookbuddy is a social space, so the usual applies. Don't post or stream anything that is:
- illegal, hateful, harassing, threatening, or bullying;
- sexually explicit, violent, or otherwise not safe for a shared kitchen;
- spam, scams, impersonation, or someone else's work passed off as your own.
In short: be the kind of person you'd happily hand a sharp knife to.
Your content
You own what you create. By posting it, you give Cookbuddy a licence to display and distribute it within the app so other people can actually see your work. You can remove your content, and doing so ends that licence going forward.
Reporting, blocking & moderation
Live streaming
Hosting a live means you're broadcasting to real people in real time. Only stream things you have the right to show, keep it within the community rules, and remember that "it was live" is not a defence.
Subscriptions & payments
- Cookbuddy Premium is €9.99/month and unlocks every live cook-along. It renews monthly until you cancel.
- You can cancel any time from Settings; you'll keep access until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Tips you send to chefs go 100% to the chef. We don't take a cut of the tip jar.
- Payments are processed by Stripe under their terms.
The boring-but-important bit
Cookbuddy is provided "as is." We work hard to keep it running, but we can't promise it'll be flawless, uninterrupted, or that your soufflé won't collapse. To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or incidental losses. Nothing here removes rights you have that can't be waived.
Ending things
You can leave any time by deleting your account. We may suspend or remove accounts that break these terms — ideally after a warning, immediately if it's serious.
Changes
We may update these terms as Cookbuddy grows. If we make a meaningful change, we'll let you know in the app. Continuing to use Cookbuddy after that means you're okay with the new version.
